Is There Purpose For Suffering

His disciples asked him, "Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?  Neither this man nor his parents sinned," said Jesus, "but this happened so that the work of God might be displayed in his life."  John 9:2 & 3
Well trying to learn to blog or journaling isn't my thing but I will try to keep it up more regularly.  Things with my health seem to have taken a turn and I need a place to speak, share, write my thoughts.  It seems as I have continued on this IV antibiotic repeat in my life things are not improving as quickly or the same as maybe I was hoping.  I have already endured 4 IV antibiotic treatments since April of this year and an Iron Infusion.  Yes low iron has been added to the mix and only complicating things more for my chronic situation, which makes it a bit tougher understanding how to treat me the best to see positive results.

I am not one to live in the dark and keep denial at the forefront of my mind, so I choose to live in reality of my circumstances.  Doing that brings on a load of emotions that at times are hard to get a handle on.  Lows and highs can happen all in a day.  Sadness knowing that the words coming out of my mouth about the seriousness of my health is actually about me not someone else.  Big reality check for sure.  Knowing where limits are for others like your husband hearing about every ache and pain that come along with the disease.  Learning what to be thankful for so that my focus does not get blurred by my emotions.  Scripture like John 9:2 & 3 which I started this blog out with, help to stay focused on the purpose and not let doubts and anger take over. There have most definitely been tough days, emotional days, tears already shed, but awesome days, thankful days and times just to focus on living every day to the fullest.

John 9 also took me to Romans 8 and I will share my thoughts and verses from that passage in my next blog.  Give someone you love a hug today and find something to be grateful and thankful for even in the midst of struggles.  God bless you!! (:

Desire More

Desire more - thought that would catch your attention!  What do we desire more of in our lives?  Is it better health, more money, more material possessions, or a longing to be like the neighbor?!  My, greatest desire is to know my Lord and Savior better.  In return for the ultimate sacrifice for my sin, glorify Him through everything I do in my daily walk.

In John 15:8 Jesus says, "This is to my Father's glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourself to be my disciples."  This is a statement Jesus made to his disciples after explaining the analogy of the vine and the branches.  It is also shortly before His arrest and crucifixion.  I have been studying the I Am's of Jesus together with another individual for several weeks now and it has been a blessing to renew my thoughts and focus them on the purpose God has given to those of us who have a genuine relationship with Him.  Desiring to know the Lord better as his devoted followers by studying his word brings us to a place of bearing fruit for him.  As we bear fruit for him he blesses us in our lives with what is needed to better equip us for his work.

In the Bible we see blessings unfold as a short, but heartfelt story is told in the book of Ruth.  Ruth a young woman whose genuine decision to follow the God of creation gave her the desire to stay completely devoted no matter the cost.  Ruth, the daughter in law to Naomi, chooses to live for the true God that Naomi and her family taught her about.  Years have passed and the woman are left as widows and new decisions have to be made in their journeys forward.  Departing from one city to another Ruth stays by Naomi's side not knowing what the future holds.  Ruth 1: 16 & 17 reads like this, "But Ruth replied, 'Don't urge me to leave you or to turn back from you.  Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay.  Your people will be my people and your God my God.  Where you die I will die, and there I will be buried.  May the Lord deal with me, be it ever so severely, if anything but death separates you and me."  What amazing faith as she faces an unknown future.  A lesson as I continue to devote myself each day in the confidence of the Lord, willing to allow his purpose to unfold.  Prayerfully giving the Lord my day and letting his glory be what is seen in me and through me, no matter the circumstances.

I look forward to a continued study of Ruth, with the ladies that are sharing this study together with me.  Without being in the word and asking through prayer, how can I know what the Lord's purpose for my life is.  Reading, praying and listening, then being obedient and faithful to serve him for his glory, not mine.

God Bless you as you desire to know the Lord better by searching his word and prayerfully considering his purpose in your life.

Great Expectations

"Jesus, Jesus how I trust him, oh for grace to trust him more."  What uplifting words taken from a song we sang in church this morning.  It seems easier to trust the Lord when things are moving along in life as planned and smoothly.  But, when the storms in life come along to shake the world around me do I tend to trust Him less.  Being reminded this morning that Jesus doesn't leave me during rough waters, I just have to trust Him completely even during those times in my life.  Thank you Lord for reminding me to put all challenges into perspective.

The process of building our new house and purchasing our lot has had its challenges that often took me off track as far as trusting and leaving things in the Lords hands.  August 2012 was the beginning of a very exciting new endeavour in our lives, but as the year has passed has not been without its unforeseen delays.  Keeping the proper focus has slipped at times, but so thankful that at this point along this house building project we are in the forward motion forging ahead with great expectations.  The Lord has definitely had all under His control and I have had to be reminded of that along the way.  I am excited about what the Lord has in store for my husband and I as we start a new chapter in our lives together after 22 years of marriage.  Moving to Hepburn has been a decision we have made together and I am looking forward to whatever the Lord has in store as this new chapter starts revealing its pages.

Great Strides Walk 2013

Today, Sunday May 26th was a very successful 5k finish at the Great Strides Walk in Saskatoon.  It feels like another victory for me as I slowly creep up to 52.  WOW 52 - did I just say that!!  Seems like an old persons age, but definitely an age I am seriously pleased to have reached.  I know that it is entirely by God's grace as the challenges continue, that I have already celebrated 51 years of a life filled with special blessings.  One of those blessings being my family who supports me and my brother as we continue to walk and raise awareness for those families only learning about Cystic Fibrosis.  My hope is also to be an encouragement to others as they see it is possible to live to an old persons age and enjoy the journey along the way!! (;  I have an amazingly supportive husband who is there to keep me grounded and reminds me to take care of myself when I let things slide.  Another year to add to the victories together with my family by my side - Thank You all!

2013 Renewed Hope

Welcoming in 2013 with a renewed sense of hope and assurance

"This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope.   It is of the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.  They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness. The Lord is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him.  The Lord is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him.   It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the Lord."  Lamentations 3:21-26

This is a passage that comes to mind often and reminds me that the Lord is all I need, that He is faithful and His mercies are new every morning.  A promise that is full of hope remembering that He is always good to those of us who wait.  Waiting quietly on the Lord requires alot of patience and complete trust.  Is not something easily come by especially if we are someone who tends to want to see results immediately.  Often it takes some kind of affliction in our personal life, whatever form that comes in, that may teach us to focus fully on the Lord and His faithfullness.  During the weakest part of that process the Lord teaches us patience and to put our trust completely in His hands.  Surrendering complete control when we feel we are at our weakest is where the Lord needs us to be.  Seems simple but definitely not easy - but reassuring that the Lord has His best for me.

The year 2012 closed with  new and exciting adventures to remember, bringing in 2013 with renewed sense of hope for what the Lord has planned for my future.  Making it through a full calendar year without any major health issues and without being treated for lung infections with IV antibiotics is a year to file away in the folder of memories to celebrate.  I am extremely thankful and grateful to the Lord, Jesus Christ my Savior for providing me with amazing health at my age considering the statistics attached to Cystic Fibrosis.  2013 is already starting out as a year for me to celebrate new adventures to share with my husband as the future continues to unfold for us together.  As things in my life seem stable I want to remember to trust in my faithful Savior and never forget where my blessings come from.  Also serving Him faithfully daily by giving up self and quietly waiting on the Lord.  "Be still and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth."  Psalm 46:10

The Greatest Gift

"Thanks be unto God for his unspeakable gift."  11 Corinthians 9:15  It is the Christmas season and the year 2012 is coming to a close.  A year of great health, things to look forward to and blessings immeasurable.  The highlight of 2011 was celebrating my 50th birthday which God so graciously allowed me to enjoy with family and friends in abundance.

Pulling my blog out of hibernation in the coldest time of the year is reminding me of what has already passed in the last 2 years.  It seems I was to busy celebrating and enjoying life to sit and write about it.  I want to put my chatting skills to good use by writing things down and remembering what the Lord has done for me.  Turning 50 was an extremely awesome time in my life and a milestone I never expected to see in my lifetime.  A weekend of celebrations left me a bit under the weather and three days of recovery was required to get myself back into action.  As 2011 continued to unfold the reality of me turning 50 was also starting to hit both physically and mentally.  But always thankfull to see another year come to a close with 2012 on the horizon full of things to plan and look forward to.  Life is to short to sit and waist it away.

I had been praying alot about getting another dog and in March of this year the search began.  It didn't take long and a phone call to a breeder who had Boston Terriers for sale was made.  As we chatted she sensed I was not interested in spending to much money, so she presented me with an option that we could hardly refuse.  A year and three month old male was available living out in there dog kennel that had never been sold.  I questioned her briefly about him.  One specific question I had decided I would ask was if he had a name.  Odd I know, but I felt that if he hadn't been named that would solidify our decision.  No name, what wonderful news.  Sharing all the information I had with Gary, we decided to go take a look and that is all it took - one look.  He was ours!! We went home preparing for our new permanent guest anticipating his imminent arrival.  A cool winter day about mid March we brought our Rocky home.  He is very healthy and energetic and we haven't regretted our decision of bringing him home yet.  Just celebrating his 2nd birthday with us before Christmas reminded me how quickly the time has passed.

Another event that took place the first week of Dec. was an awesome ladies trip to Orlando, Florida.  Phonecalls, planning, booking and preparing for this trip started way back in June/July of this year.  Six months before leaving seemed like a long time away, but the time again passed very quickly and before I knew it six of us ladies were boarding a plan leaving this cold, snowy weather behind here in Saskatchewan.  Eagerly anticipating beautiful, sunny weather in Florida was an amazing feeling once the United Airlines landed safely at the Orlando airport.  It was an awesome time away enjoying the company of some family and close friends.  Enjoying alot of the sites and spending ample time in the covered pool in the backyard of the Villa we had rented is a memory that will always be cherished, especially being with those so close to me.

Well the biggest event in our lives that is slowly unfolding is making a big move from Saskatoon to Hepburn.  A bad day at work for Gary and a brief conversation about moving and selling the house started us on a whole new journey we have never ever imagined.  In a week we had the house ready for listing and in 4 days we had an offer we couldn't refuse.  House sold with no house to move into so in between moves is where we have ended up.  We have purchase a lot in Hepburn and made our first payment to Zak's Building Supplies to move ahead on building our RTM (ready to move) house.  The blueprints are in our hands, some contracts signed, some products ordered and the building begins about mid January.  So excited about what is to come.

Starting a Bible study together with a friend on the gospel of John has also been extremely beneficial for me.  Learning about the Lord Jesus Christ and what he has done for me has been very refreshing.  It is nothing I have done, but the greatest sacrifice that was made on that cross for me and my sinful life.  That is why at this time of year his birth should be a reminder of what he came for.  He came as a baby, grew up to then sacrifice his life on that tree so that I could have life eternal, the greatest gift ever given.

So I want to wish you all a Merry Christmas and God's richest of blessings to you in 2013.

                                                                                                                God Bless
                                                                                                                 Barbara (:
